tango - it’s all about the passion
TANGO - it’s all about the passion
Founded in 2020, The Camarada Tango Quartet redefines the tango experience with a bold, post-Piazzolla approach—masterfully blending the soul of tango, a virtuosic classical vibe, and a rock 'n' roll edge.
Their performances are more than entertainment; they are emotional journeys that captivate and move audiences to the core.
Led by renowned composer and double bassist Andrés Martín, this electrifying ensemble brings tango to life with powerful original works and compelling storytelling. Martín’s insights offer a rare glimpse into the creative process, transforming each concert into an intimate dialogue between artists and audience.
In the past two years, the Camarada Tango Quartet has toured major U.S. cities—including New York City, Arizona, and North Carolina—and completed two consecutive South American tours. These journeys culminated in a recording at the legendary ION Studios in Buenos Aires, Argentina, resulting in the releases of Tango Bajo el Agua (2024) and Brutal (2025), both available worldwide on vinyl and digital platforms.
Beyond their dynamic touring, the quartet has been a driving force in the evolution of tango music. Over the last four years, they have created nearly 30 new arrangements spanning tango’s rich history, along with over two hours of original compositions that push the genre’s boundaries. Their artistic collaborations include celebrated musicians and dancers from both the U.S. and Argentina, deepening the cultural and emotional impact of each performance.
Join us to experience the evolution of tango—where the echoes of the past meet the innovations of today, and every performance becomes a personal encounter with the soul of the genre.

For this concert, the intrepid Camarada Tango Quartet of flutist Beth Ross Buckley, violinist David Buckley, pianist Dana Burnett , and double bassist Andrés Martín was joined by bandoneon maestro Pablo Jaurena. Nothing authenticates the musical sonority of Argentine tango like the reedy presence of a bandoneon, although finding a skilled bandoneon player in North America is daunting. Calling the local Musicians Union to ask for a list of available bandoneon players would be a wasted phone call.
Like his fellow Argentine Astor Piazzolla, Andrés Martin creates rhapsodic instrumental tangos that encompass contrasting moods without losing the dance’s vibrant pulse. In Martin’s single movement Tango Baja el Agua for flute, violin, double bass and piano, Camarada’s ensemble indulged his driving main theme with robust textures that alternated with suave solo interludes: creamy, languid solos from flutist Beth Ross Buckley, probing, angular forays from Martin’s contrabass, as well as expressive sighs and whispers from violinist David Buckley all supported by Dana Burnett’s polished, articulate piano collaboration.
It was a beautiful kick-off to the 2024-2025 First Thursdays series as the Camarada Tango Quartet played for a full audience in the Del Mar Town Hall on Sept. 5.
